An environmental strategy and action plan for Tate

2017

Lantern has worked with Tate to develop an environmental strategy and action plan.

Building on Tate’s long-term commitment to improving its environmental sustainability, Lantern updated Tate’s environmental policy and worked with the galleries to create an organisation-wide vision that will guide Tate's responses to their environmental challenges and provide the organisation with a clear routemap to future improvements.

Working with the estates, finance and curatorial teams, Lantern calculated and assessed Tate’s areas of greatest environmental impact.  Significant changes to the organisation’s building estate including the new Blavatnik building at Tate Modern and new extension at St Ives, as well as increasing visitor numbers were reflected in energy and water consumption, waste production and transport impacts.

Lantern’s guidance on Tate’s strategy and action plan, plus bespoke data monitoring calculation templates created by our team for the galleries, will enable Tate to understand, measure, improve and communicate their environmental performance going forward.
